HOW TO PREPARE FOR ILI LLM EXAM

Indian Law Institutes as the name suggest is a brand in itself, which doesn’t need much introduction. Student those who are aiming for research oriented LL.M, ILI is the Institute(ILI LLM). Apart from academic advantages ILI LLM gives you a great platform for other exposures as well.

Location of ILI is one of the best locations any law school can have; located opposite to Supreme Court complex this institution gives you the exposure to courtroom learning as well.

Due to limited number of seats one needs to focus and plan preparation accordingly to the pattern, because in addition to law subjects this entrance needs your attention in other areas as well. Preparation can be taken along with other LL.M. entrances preparations as well, but if one is determined for ILI LLM only then extra efforts are needed for same.

Master program from Indian Law Institute(ILI LLM) is designed for 1 year LL.M.

ILI LLM Mode of Examination: Online.

ILI LLM Duration: 2 hours.

Time of Examination: 2nd week of June

ILI LLM Notification: is out around end of March or April.

Total Marks: 200

Ist Part-Objective Type- 140

IInd Part- Subjective Part- 40

Viva-Voice- 20- On merit list formed after combined marks of Ist and IInd part.

ILI LLM Number of questions 140, every question carries +4 for correct answer and negative 1 for wrong answer.

ILI LLM Question type– Objective, Divided in two parts

Admission- on the basis of merit list prepared after exam.

Cut-off: Varies year to year, this year marks cut-off: 235 and rank cut-off was 36

Seat Intake– Around 38

ILI LLM Subject covered:

Part I- 40 marks:

20 marks- English Language- This portion covers mainly correct usage of words in sentences and for fill in the blanks. One has to develop a strong Vocabulary for this portion.

20 marks- General Knowledge, apart from current affairs this portion covers overall areas and events around the world, one can refer to good general knowledge guides and digest like Arihant

Part II- 100 marks: Law, under which subject covered are-

  • Constitutional Law
  • Jurisprudence
  • Law of Contracts
  • Specific Relief Act
  • Sale of Goods
  • Partnership Law
  • Limitation Act
  • Law of Torts
  • Criminal Law
  • Public International Law
  • Environment Law
  • Contemporary legal issue

Subjective portion covers 20 marks- where division can be 5 marks for 4 questions or 10 marks for 2 questions with a word limit for answers.

Questions are from law portion, but can be asked from any subjects above mentioned. One just needs to have a clear idea of the laws and good practice of writing answers.

As there is no clear division of no. of question asked from each subject, each subject carries equal importance and need to be focused in a precise manner.

Bare Act reading is required for all subject having bare provisions.

ILI LLM Syllabus wise distribution:

Constitution:  Any Bare Act: P.M.Bakshi or Universal’s, then stick to one book which ever you are comfortable reading with either J.N.Pandey, V.N,Shukla or Mamta Rao or whichever is suggested while law school curriculum.

Keep updated you with all the legal development especially case laws.

Jurisprudence: Material like, decoding the jurisprudence is really helpful to get all the sayings at one place, apart from it pick any one book for complete understanding. Recommended- B.N.Mani Tripathi and V.D.Mahajan

Contract Law: Major focuses Section 1-75, reading material book- R.K.Bangia

Tort Law: R.K.Bangia

Criminal Law: Bare acts and guide for cases

Family Law:  Bare acts for both Hindu and Muslim Law and recent developments

Environmental Law:  Bare Act provisions for all the acts

International Law:  recent current on goings and guides for LL.M. entrances

Additional Material: LL.M. entrance guides by A.K.Jain, Singhal Publication and O.P.Tripathi and MCQ series as many as possible. Also do solve past year question papers from ILI for a clear idea of pattern and standard.
